Orthodontics is a dental specialty that focuses on aligning the bite and straightening the teeth. If you have crooked, gapped, or twisted teeth, an orthodontist can come in to improve your smile. Orthodontists are also your best friend if you have bite issues, such as if your teeth stick out too much or if your teeth do not meet when you bite.
Orthodontists have invested in further studies to diagnose, prevent, manage, and treat dental and facial irregularities in patients of all ages. Their expertise is especially crucial during one’s growth and development. They step in and resolve problems before they fully develop.
If you have concerns about your smile, see an Orthodontist in SE Calgary today at Midpark Dental so they can assess and create the best smile makeover treatment for you.

Orthodontic Services Offered
Some of the orthodontic procedures we offer in our SE Calgary clinic includes:
Dental Braces
Traditional dental braces involve metal brackets and wires placed on the teeth to encourage tooth movement and alignment. This is recommended for all types of bite problems and smile alignment concerns.
But if you want a more discreet look, we also offer ceramic braces which uses ceramic-coloured brackets that blend better with the teeth or lingual braces which are hidden behind the teeth. These alternatives can straighten the smile without the metal teeth look.
Invisible Braces – Invisalign
The most advanced teeth straightening system is the Invisalign invisible braces. The treatment uses a series of clear, removable, bespoke aligners that fit snugly around the teeth to straighten them gradually. This uses digital technology to scan your teeth, map out your entire treatment, and determine how many aligners you need to transform your smile.
The Invisalign treatment is a more comfortable alternative to traditional braces. And because they are virtually invisible, you can smile confidently even with them on. Simply wear them as recommended and watch the magic happen!
Growth Assessment
A crucial period of orthodontic treatment is during the age where baby teeth start to fall off and the adult teeth begin to come out in the mouth. To avoid future problems with the smile and bite, your orthodontist can assess your child’s scans as early as possible so they can detect possible concerns and provide early intervention. This is called preventive orthodontics and it uses devices to manage the growth of the jaws as they develop.
Retainers
Dental retainers are custom-made devices, usually made of wires or clear plastic. They are worn over your teeth after dental braces to keep them in their correct alignment. Otherwise, they may shift and your teeth may relapse to their previous position.
The Orthodontist Process
The orthodontic treatment process depends on what procedure you will need. Generally, what you can expect during your visit with your orthodontist includes:
Scans
Depending on what your treatment needs, your orthodontist may recommend you get an extraoral or intraoral scan, or both. Extraoral scans such as a full mouth xray determines the position of each tooth and health of the jawbone. This is especially useful during growth assessment to locate adult teeth as they are about to come in the mouth.
Meanwhile, an intraoral scan provides measurements of your arch, tooth size, and detailed images of your teeth and gums. These are key information needed for the braces treatment to fix your bite.
Diagnosis
After your scans and other charts are obtained, your orthodontist can provide an accurate diagnosis of your case. Such as whether you have bite issues such as overbite or underbite or if you have teeth crowding due to small jaw. Correct diagnosis makes for proper treatment planning and, most importantly, treatment success.
Treatment Plan
After finalizing your diagnosis, the last step is to create a personalized treatment plan that will help treat and manage your orthodontic concerns and prevent problems in the future. During this step, it is also important to discuss your treatment goals with your orthodontist so they can align the plan according to your needs.
Why are Orthodontist Appointments Important?
Once we have discussed your treatment plan, our orthodontist and dental team expect to see you as recommended.
If you are undergoing traditional dental braces, you will be scheduled for a dental visit every three weeks. This is so that your orthodontist can make adjustments to your dental appliance, including replacing worn-out bands to tighten your braces. Patients with orthodontic devices, such as space maintainers, may need to visit every 2 months for recalibration.
Meanwhile, if you are wearing invisible braces, you are likely scheduled for appointments every four to six weeks. This is for progress checks to determine if your treatment is moving forward as planned.
How to Pay for Orthodontic Services?
There are many payment avenues that you can consider to fund your orthodontic treatment, such as:
Personal funding
Midpark Dental accepts several payment methods, including cash, personal cheques, and debit and credit cards.
Third party funding
If eligible, you may also reach out to third party financing that can pay for your partial or full fees.
Dental insurance
Some dental insurance plans include coverage for orthodontic treatment. But, because this is not a medically necessary procedure, it is not a guarantee that it is part of your coverage inclusion. Discuss with your provider to determine if you can use your insurance as fund source.
